1998 GS 400…

I was wondering what everybody thinks of the new GS 400… the styles, the engine, the interior, (if you’ve test driven it)

I am lucky enough to own a 97 540I 6-speed, so I think I have a fair comparison. I drove the gs 400 last week just to see what the hoopla was about. I have owned a Lexus in the past and consider the dealer and service network a big plus, certainly over my experience with the shady BMW dealers I have had to deal with. Anyway,the car–I would have had a difficult choice had this car been out last summer when I purchased. The car was very fast, larger inside than the BMW, and handled very nicely as well. I would give the edge in overall ‘feel’ to the 540I, but otherwise there are tradeoffs. The Lexus is a bunch cheaper as well, although there don’t seem to be any great deals on them right now. All in all, I would consider the car against anything in its class, especially if you like the styling. Good luck.

I know that Automobile mag. tested the GS400, the Caddy STS, the BMW 540i and the Mercedes C280 Sport, and while they said that all three were great, three out of four gave the nod to the C280 and the fourth said the BMW.
