Question:

INCREASE IN OPIOID ANALGESIC USE DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN AN INCREASE IN ABUSE The use of opioid analgesics to treat pain is increasing; however, new data suggest that the abuse of opioid analgesics relative to all drug abuse may be declining, according to an article in the April 5 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association. http://internalmedicine.medscape.com/19833.rhtml

Response:

The article gets mealy-mouthed and starts qualifying the stats, but they don’t qualify them by adding the number of people virtually kidnapped or accused of being addicts by opiophobes because they were using pain meds legitimately. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Original Message <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

It’s always sad when a self-appointed leader betrays those whom she seeks to protect.  When you choose to "lead", you lead by example, not by judicial fiat.  When people disagree, you don’t turn your back on them.  You CREATE harmony – it does not create you. > I do not need this place – I came here seeking information and to give > information – seems I have had to fight to get the little bit of information > I have gotten.

Yes, it is a difficult place to pick and choose.  So is real life.  In an age when we are flooded with information and disinformation, it is up to each individual to decide what is needed and what is not.  One cannot presume to know what is best for all. > I guess I am a lot luckier than most here – I really don’t NEED this place > and I have resources as good as if not better than this at my disposal.

Yes, you are lucky.  I have a huge university library right upstairs from one of my offices, complete MEDLINE access, professional journals, colleagues and a flood of daily newsletters to read.  Some useful, some not so useful.  But you don’t know that until you’ve perused ‘em all.  The burden of knowledge is discernment. > The few people here that I really care about know I will stay in touch and > they know who they are.

I can assume I’m not one of them? > OH YEAH – and for the rest of you – KISS MY FUCKING ASS!!!

Oh, my God.  What happened?  I am a newbie, started 2-1/2 weeks ago.  I felt some underlying discomfort, but I didn’t know from whence it came or what it was about. Response:

You know, that is absolutely right.  Pre-injury in 1997, I used to talk to various groups and train legal secretaries.  I used to tell them in regards to seminars, well-meaning unsolicited "veterans" advice, and (believe it or not "support groups")  to take what you need and leave the rest.  Funny how that turned up again for me! I always find something I can use from this group to make my life a bit simpler.  I "eavesdrop" a lot (don’t know if this is considered bad form to do so).  And when it’s 3:00 in the a.m.`, I can usually find someone who is feeling the same way I do. Response:

Your numbers are interesting and good fun fact to know.  But some will look at them oddly only because of where they live.  In the Upper Midwest (USA) Bass #1, Walleye #2, Muskie #3, Crappie #4.  In the Northeast (USA) Bass #1, Trout & Salmon #2-3.  Sad but true, in the Northwest bass isn’t #1 or #2, or even #3.  Trout, salmon, panfish (bream & crappie), then bass. I’ll gladly send you some.  They seem to over run the pond area.  I think we have three separate families.  Have you ever heard chipmunks having a quarrel?  They sure do raise a ruckus, but they’re fun to watch most of the time. — Bonnie NJ http://www.users.fast.net/~maebe/index.htm

I’d love them – but they wouldn’t stay.  It’s just not a chipmunk friendly environment yet.  Not enough trees.  We get big black squirrels – but we never see them.  We just know they’re there because we keep finding their walnut caches.
