My gig bag is a Target special I got for free from a friend who didn’t want it anymore. It was a carry-on bag originally. It has lots of pockets. The only real requirements I have for any gig bag is for it to hold a collapsed guitar stand and that it have a separate section for paperwork. Everything else can just pile in. I rather it not look too cheap, though; after all, it is somewhat of a statement on how you do things. First impressions and all… Edward G. Homemade cloth bag with a piece of plywood in the bottom, says "Daddy’s Music Bag" – I Love You Daddy on it. Good bag. Seems a bit snug for jazz bass, though.

Nooooooooo! Don’t get the Fender gig bag! I bought a Fender double gig bag and the strap rings weren’t even strong enough to support my two basses! Now I have to use the handle all the time. Spend some money and get something with better patting and sturdy construction. A good design should be able to hold more wieght than what it is meant to carry. jordan

I use a camcorder bag I picked up at Wal-Mart. Lotsa pockets and it holds everything I need – mics, wires, tuner, batteries, adhesive tape, band-aids, allen wrenches, power strip, spare mic & guitar wires, wristbands, guitar polish, wipedown rags, patch cords, spare strings, you name it… Doc

I went to Marshall’s and bought a ‘$9.99 special’ gym bag. The thing’s got more than enough room for pedals and ’such’ – even my notebook with music, setlists… It’s got side pockets for cords too. It even came with a free backpack, what a deal. As far as the longevity I’ll get for my 10 bucks goes, I’ll have to get back to you…only had it a couple months. I don’t use pedals, but I stuff the rest of that junk into the big o’l pocket on the front of my Fender gig bag that I got from MF. It’s the kind of gig bag that holds the instrument too. :^) — Bud LeCompte

Oh…Mine was a giveaway from Midwest Acorn company (A company that manufactures chrome hardware for custom vehicles, Harleys and such). Kind of a generic soft sided briefcase. It was free, which is it’s best feature, and made of genuine simulated leather.

Gadget bags….. I’ve got a Rok SaK (spelling?) that’s great for holding pedals, cables, etc….. I’ve still got my "Big" bag that has mics, tubes, tools, etc. in it, but the roc whatever is great for protecting the pedals (which seem to be multiplying whilst I sleep) _ _ _ / o | o / / / Ted Partin http://members.aol.com/dblbassted

I have two different kinds of Fender gig bags for two of my basses. One is a nylon-like material, with a large, deep pocket on the outside and a smaller pocked on top of that. The other is a suede-type material with the same pocket arrangement, but with an extra pocket up near the headstock. It’d fit an automatic camera or chromatic tuner quite nicely. Here that gig bag goes for $200. I got it for $100 when I bought my last bass. I don’t actually use gig bag pockets for carrying anything (except some spare batteries for the active bass in the "camera" pocket), as I have a Black Wolf backpack in which I carry all my leads, tools, straps, etc. — http://johnno.casebook.org
