Wow, that sounds exactly like those who hate america. Amazing how two opposing sides often sound so similar. They see themselves as under attack by america. Kevin, I believe that there is concentration of all aspects of terrorism. The nature of terrorism dictates what we must do to protect ourselves and others from these types of attacks. I don’t believe there is a single answer or ‘plan’, but I do believe it calls for united front from as many nations as possible. We all stand to lose much. Think about how we pick and choose our war grounds.. North Korea? I didnt see any any NK’s on the terrorist list. How about Russia and CHina? Did you know where all the weopons in the terrorist hands were made in? Guess.. Paula, maybe the interests of the higher ups in washington serve another purpose that is masked to the public as what you believe. Its masked as something its not.. We have been here before, history repeats itself, and the blood of millions cries to us from the grave to learn from our mistakes. During the cold war there were many presidents and generals in discussion to attack Russia before they could be strong enough to whip us off the earth. There was a huge arms race, There were close calls, and thank God to the patience and the persistance and the paths that were chosen to fight the communist system, as over time, we saw what happened to communism, and the russian state. It disintigrated on its own. And if that path of peace and persistance was not taken, we may not be sitting in front of our computers this moment. We can fight a war in many ways, animals spill blood because they cannot communicate, and only know violence. We have a tongue, a mind, and a heart. The world is not with us on this one next step, and did you ever comply when a bully gave you an ultimatum in the school yard? You get more bees with honey then you do with sugar. Take care and God bless. www.fillingtime.com

the free market society and capitalism does provide for a fair division of wealth.. if one tried hard enough…. in the us if you work hard and have the necisary skills you can go from living in a cardboard box to living in a penthouse…. i cant think of any better way to distribute wealth than that… it’s true money begets money, and the wealthy have alot easier time making and staying wealthy, but the current system in no way shape or form keeps one from bettering their economic position.. if they have what it takes…. >I was drawing a parallel between two countries and how it is necessary to >evolve. We should’nt be so critical of the evolution of other countries that >have not had the wealth and resources that the US has enjoyed.
oh, so since they are poor, the same standards shouldt apply???? does that make it ok for a street bum to mug you just beacuse he doesnt have money and you do? we realized the error of our ways, and made matters right to the best of our abilities…. we have a responsibility as moral beings to criticize those who deny others basic human rights… again, judge people on what they do now, not what their ancestors have done long in the past. >that was an act of war not an act of enterprise…. >what about the whales killed by japan? oh yhea.. > i forgot.. only the evil us destroys the environment…. >Did I say only the US destroys the environment.
no but you seem to imply that capitalism is the leading destroyer of the environment…. i pointed out the communist government of russia, the most opposite form of governmet as capitolism, and they still have a horrible environmental reputation, much wore than that of ‘ours’ >So they have to serve the US’s interest but the US doesn’t have to serve >their’s right?
i would think that someone you help should be required to serve your intrests…. if i help someone i expect them to do what they can to help me back, not do me a dis-service for my charity…. what rights of others have we overlooked? >Easy fella, I was only pointing out that Bill gates did not give as much as >the poster stated IE 24 Billion. pointing out, but not suporting with facts… i remeber at least one instance i read about on cnn where gates donated a billion to one fund or another, so his contributions ate at least an order of magnitude higher than your figure…. however the point remains that you seemed to inplly that gates’ contribution was insignifigant due to his vast wealth… i just wanted to point out that it was a hell of a lot of money, and that he was certainly under no obligation to spread it around…

You are very patriotic. I wonder if the US is concentrating enough energy on the root causes of terrorism. IE Why do some people hate the US so much that they are willing to die for its destruction. This makes me wonder. I hope that the root causes of terrorism are addressed so that the US does not have to sleep with a gun under its pillow so to speak, a hell of a way to live. And when you think about it, its not nuclear weapons that threatens the US as much as a suicidal terrorist which is infinately more difficult to control. For all the money that has gone into the war on terra, Bin laden remains at large. This I suppose is just one example of the difficulty and gravity of the problem. I think foriegn policy must include the interest of others, sort of a Christian value. And of course its a two way street. Kevin

I hate to burst your pretty little bubble, however, unless the American people continue to live their lives after 9/11 the same way they did so before 9/11 the rest of the world will suffer. That is a reality that is undeniable. This president, W. Bush, has accomplished making it ‘okay’ to evoke the name of God in politics, business, and homes. Watch how those who avoided ‘god’s name’ publically now include God in their speeches. It is a small step, but it is one in the right direction. War is ugly. The United States of America, is not a democracy. It is a democratic republic. English Oxford Dictonary definintion of Democracy. A government by all the people, direct or representative; form of society ignoring hereditary class distinctions and tolerating minority views. A democracy is Majority Rules. English Oxford Dictonary definintion of Republic. A State in which supreme power is held by the people or its elected representatives or by elected or nominated president, not by monarch etc.; Society of persons ( or animals ) with equality between members. The "free market" system has nothing to do with America at all, it is only one facet of a greater hole. The Founding Fathers of the US believed that God has given mankind the Freedom of Choice. The very first two amendments of the Constitution exemplify this. Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Amendment II A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Here in the US, we have these Freedoms. If we chose, we have the freedom to go to church or not to go to church. If we chose we to speak out against any government we have that freedom. If we so chose to protest our government in a peaceable assembly we have that freedom. If we chose to petition the government for a redress of grievances we have that Freedom. If we wish to own a fire-arm for our protection, we have that Freedom, not because we can on a weapon or do any of these things, but because its our God given right of freedom to Chose. We have the Choice to accept Christ into our life or not. We have the Choice to start a business, and turn it into a multi-national corporation. We have the Choice to make loads of money and give it away. We have the Choice to watch shows like Jerry Springer. We also have the Choice not accept Christ, or not to start a big business, or to make loads of money and give it away, or not to watch shows like Jerry Springer. These are the ideals of the US. So a "freemarket" "capitalist" society has nothing to do with ideals of the US. However, we rely on this economy to improve our lives, help educate ourselves, and to help us grow as citizens of the US, and human beings. We have the choice to give our money away, and the US is the biggest contributor to international aid in the world. I agree with the orginial poster, on this topic, and I do feel that others outside the US see this country as the bane of there existance. I myself am an immigrant to the US from Wales, and I’ve been able to see both sides of the spectrum. I believe once you understand the founding principles of the US, I would hope, one would realize that these are fundementals of mankind and not just of one country. The only problems to these principles is the implementing of them. America fought Great Britian in order to gain this freedom, and its own God given right to vote, and self govern. Women and Blacks had to fight to get to vote, but do they? Sadly not everyone votes, but that is there Choice. There are right and wrong choices, if you make a bad one you have to live with the consequences for good or ill. If you chose not to vote, petition congress or your representatives with your grevances, and end up with a totalitaritan government….Well there you go. Democracy is a bunch of wolves and a sheep sitting at a table deciding whats for supper. Freedom is relative, Capitalism rewards greed and creates an upward flow of surplus wealth into fewer and fewer pockets leaving less for greater numbers of people in the long run. The wealthiest represent only the upper thin crust of the worlds population. Pollution ain’t high on the political agenda for the US because of their glutenous appetite for energy. Where is the US on the Kyoto accord?? "At their high-level meeting in the northern Swedish town of Kiruna, European environment ministers took stock of the situation and condemned the US move. EU ministers are meeting to take stock Kyoto "is still alive, and no individual country has the right to declare that a multilateral accord is dead", Swedish Environment Minister Kjell Larsson said. The widespread international condemnation of President Bush’s decision has left the US looking increasingly isolated. Unless of course you ask the other half of the world what they think of America and you will get a different opinion. Its not all about America any more. America is 5% of the world population who consumes 25% of the worlds energy resources. They have gobs of money to throw at any humaitarian cause which of course makes them them worthy of praise but its easy to give when you have so much. >This country has lost its focus, has > detached God from its name because of political reasons, has ousted > the church (separation of church and state) from its heart. Precisely; these people have nothing to loose and in the case of sept/11, these people honestly see the US as a source of their misery. The US has not been innocent in their actions and dealings with the rest of the world as they are quite prepared to do just about anything to protect their resources and ideologies from external threats. Unfortunately, someone or something must suffer in the process. The fundamental problem with democracy and the free enterprise model is that it is a maximising process in that it is like an appetite, its never satisfied. We need more production, more consumption, higher profits. Investors expect continued growth on investments. Its time to rethink this model because the world with all its richness is limited. There is NO SUCH THING as continued growth forever. So we must ask, when will we be satified? To date, we have been willing to trash the planet for the sake of profits. Don’t we see it everywhere? There will be reckoning. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I was ashamed at the amount of coverage that was given to subjects > such as the stock market, how is the market going to react, wall > street, Christmas shopping etc. Meanwhile leaders appear on television > urging Americans to continue their lives and keep shopping. Or perhaps we can say that we have lost the more important VALUES that are humitarian based for the sake of material values. >We need to look hard at our actions, the world around us > and extend a helping hand to all nations regardless of what they can > give back. The USA Today The events of sept 11th have redefined our lives in many many ways. There is one aspect that has risen up that should be viewed in a positive light. A reality that the world extends beyond what we see, beyond our warm houses and windows. Outside of this lies a span of land, water, and continents. This span consist of a people, like you and I whom we often forget live hard, dangerous and empty lives. More parts than lesser have people not nearly 1/5th as wealthy, intelligent, comfortable, warm, full, and healthy as ourselves. there is a gross imbalance of wealth, and poverty. There is one extreme, then the other. America has become the Country every other has tried to look up to, this country has set standards, this country has achieved much, and it has so because it was built on foundations based on equality, freedom, and above all, God. One nation under God, In God we trust, God bless America. This country has lost its focus, has detached God from its name because of political reasons, has ousted the church (separation of church and state) from its heart. That is were we began to err, that is where the examples and regards we had from other nations, was lost. Now we are looked upon for our monetary achievements. This nation is no longer under God, it is under the dollar. We have forgotten to spread the wealth to our brothers and sisters, and that is what was brought to light that day. When life is not worth much in the land you live in, it is easy to forgo it in the form of an evil suicide attack. I was ashamed at the amount of coverage that was given to subjects such as the stock market, how is the market going to react, wall street, Christmas shopping etc. Meanwhile leaders appear on television urging Americans to continue their lives and keep shopping. We can shop till this nation shops itself apart. We can shop in trendy malls while millions starve and die because they don’t have a piece of bread. We can shop while desperation takes grip of poor nations and their leaders, clouding their minds and ability to do what is right, what is true, and allowing entire countries to sink into a never-ending spiral of demise, While we turn a blind eye, ever more often, unless off course, there is a financial interest. It upsets me to see that the true reasons that lie beneath the surface of decisions and policies are based on selfishness, greed and power. It upsets me to see a leader, who initially seemed to be one who carried religion in his heart, turn around very quickly to wield a sharp, vengeful, bloody war sword. We as a nation have lost our origins and we are falling by the wayside. We have seperated further and further from what is real and what is true. We need to look hard at our actions, the world around us and extend a helping hand to all nations regardless of what they can give back. Our problems are not solve via the sword, they are solved by the example set forth from He who died for us all on the cross. The example of Love, caring and understanding. We are in the spotlight to set an example to all the nations on how to behave, and we are loosing the chance. www.fillingtime.com
