Why would sweet almond oil have any more effect on the progression of lupus than, say, corn oil? Why would lemon and lime be of any assistance? What do these materials contain which is helpful in combatting an autoimmune disease? I can imagine that an immune-depressing condition like AIDS or radiation therapy might slow down or stop lupus. Is that how these materials work? If so, it sounds like normal people should avoid almonds, lemon, and lime.

Wouldn’t strengthening the immune system make lupus worse? Lupus is an autoimmune disease, i.e. a disease in which the immune system attacks the body. Nobody knows why this happens, but many cases seem to be preceded by an infection which may trigger the immune system to kick in. The immune system then overreacts, causing lupus.

I’m on a mission for an acquaintance who has just recently found out she has Lupus. What I need to find out is any good sources for information regarding alternative treatment for Lupus, especially nutritional and herbal. Any sort of diet, foods, herbs, etc that have been known to strengthen the immune system are what I’m looking for, or sources to get this or similar information. (perhaps on a related note, I could also look for info about similar therapies for AIDS). Any help is apppreciated! –L. — "Where’s the Kaboom? There’s supposed to be an earth-shattering Kaboom!" –MM
