replacing shower glass
Question:
We have an old corner shower stall (32in x37.5in). The non-safety glass in the return side is badly cracked, and I want to replace the glass with safety glass without replacing the entire enclo$ure. What kind of store carries shower glass for making this kind of repair? Is the installation something I could do myself with a screwdriver and a caulking gun? Any special tools required? Tips/warnings appreciated. Thanks Tim

A local glass company will do this. >Is the installation > something I could do myself with a screwdriver and a caulking gun?
Yes, but you need a rubber seal gasket, NOT caulk. Any > special tools required?
hammer,plyers,gloves,flat head screwdriver,rubber spacers >Tips/warnings appreciated.
wear gloves while removing the old glass. install "new" tempered glass. it is easier to remove the entire panel to work on the glass, or bing it to your local glass company. if you must replace the glass with the panel in place 1st remove any loose or broken glass 2nd remove rubber gasket from perimeter of glass 3rd carefully lift glass upward (should be channel to slide up into) and remove. 4th clean tracks with denatured alcohol 5th install new glass (slide up into channel first) lower onto rubber spacers. 6th install "new" rubber gasket Make sure the rubber spacers (1/8" thick) are on the bottom of the track before installing new glass. this will prevent the glass from chipping and aids in expansion. * Just adding my (indian head) 2 cents worth *

Unless you have a very expensive enclosure or unusual situation, I seriously doubt the price for custom glass will be any cheaper than just replacing the whole thing. -Tim
