Response:
Just dust yourself off and get back in the game. This is no biggie; there are few here that have not. Just don’t make the mistake I did and wait 9 months. Greg, Seven months, one week, five days, 2 hours, 8 minutes and 3 seconds. 2260 cigarettes not smoked, saving $361.81. Life saved: 1 week, 20 hours, 20 minutes. Before you buy.
Response:
Rik, I’m sorry to hear this
That being said, you know that this isn’t a matter of choice for you. You have to do this. So I suggest that you don’t bother beating yourself up about it… just put the smokes down and keep going. The sooner you do this, the less of a head-trip you’re going to be on over the slip… and yes, all those thoughts of "I’ve failed, I smoked so that means I’m a failure and I can’t do this" are just the junkie brain trying to talk you into full-time suicide again. I’ve heard it too many times, and I’m not referring to this newsgroup. Rik, please don’t let that happen. You and I have chatted, but I haven’t really talked to you about my mom’s recent illness and death. My mom was smoking an unbelievable carton a day before she went into the hospital for the last time. She’d been on oxygen for awhile, yeah… it was pneumonia secondary to emphysema that got her, so they say. She had a living will; mom never wanted to be on a respirator, but because pneumonia is in theory a curable condition we had no choice. That’s how it ends for a lot of COPD patients, no matter what they may stipulate in official documents, the hospitals will not allow you to die if you’re not technically terminal. For two of the last three weeks of her life she lay almost lifeless, attached to that machine. When we got her off of it, her vocal cords and throat had been paralyzed from the trauma of having the tubes in there for so long. She declined a stomach tube for feeding and wasn’t able to eat or drink anything during the last week of her life. Her mouth and throat were parched and filled with fungus. After all the praying about the life support systems, we got her off if that ahs she just weakened and died… simple as that. It was horrible. Horrible for her, and horrible for me to watch. You’ve got kids, right? Care about them enough to not put them through what I have just been through. I loved my mother, but I don’t know if I’ll ever fully forgive her for deliberately stealing herself away from me like this. Sorry for the tough love, Rik… this is freaking important. Hugs, Elle f3as3 http://www.heydave.net http://www.xuyunmusic.com
Response:

Response:
Rik, What they said. Now…1. Why did you give in? What excuses did your junkie mind throw at you? 2. Where did you get the cigarettes? Did you have to go buy some in order to "slip"? 3. What will you do next time the junkie thinking crosses your mind? What will you do with the time it took you to obtain the cigarettes? (answer: read and post and read and post and read and post…the urge will go away whether you smoke or not so read and post) Learn from it, deal with it, make a new plan, and get back on the smobermobile immediately! We have superglue for those who won’t stay on board…falling off with your butt superglued to the seat is NOT a pretty sight. Remember a few things. There is no try…only do, or die. Sound familiar? <g> You either smoke or you don’t smoke…nonsmokers don’t slip, they don’t smoke, period. You can do it! /varcie slip-expert extraordinaire Two weeks, five days, 19 hours, 18 minutes and 49 seconds. 594 cigarettes not smoked, saving $120.31. Response:
A slip is not a full blown relapse. Get right back on the horse Rik – this is salvageable. Giving up is worth the effort – you’re worth the effort Rik. Catie 6m+ Before you buy.
Response:
Rik, I am sorry to hear this. I hope you think over what caused you to slip. Get back on that roller coaster ride and hang out tight. We are here for you. You can do it. Response:
btw, Rik…I’m wondering if you’re still on any quit aids? (I seem to recall you starting off with patches/zyban, but weaning yourself rather quickly). If you’re off the patches, not much point in restarting, but you should consider keeping on the Zyban for a good while. I know we all want to put smoking behind us as quickly as possible, have it be no part of our lives any more including the aids we use to quit with, but it just isn’t that easy. It took us years and years of smoking to get here, we will always be addicts, it isn’t going to ‘go away’ in a week or two of abstinence, and if we expect it to we will be sorely disappointed. Talk to us!! /varcie Two weeks, five days, 21 hours, 0 minutes and 35 seconds. 596 cigarettes not smoked, saving $120.74. Time NOT spent smoking: 2 days, 1 hour, 40 minutes.
Response:
