The bombing put out of action all navigational aids and instrument landing locators, essential for commercial airliners to operate in and out of Baghdad International. And the main runaway has only been patched up, and needs a complete rebuilt. What with the lack of infrastructure and essential services, we’ll be waiting a long time before a commercial service is resumed. Currently virtually the only way into Baghdad is by road from Kuwait, and it’s patrolled by British and US forces, and you’ll need clearance from them. And as Foreign Office has said, ‘We have no consular service in Iraq’. Alec
