Waypoints Sudan
Question:
Do anyone has usefull waypoints of Sudan ? thanks Derek-Jan www.africa-expedition.org
Response:
Hi derek-Jan, I’ve been in Sudan in April and the only GPS point I can offer you is the place where we camped near Khartoum. We stayed with Isaac some 8 K’s south of the city. Coordinates are: N 15′ 30.886/E 32′37.804 He is building a campsite next to his house and has some great, clean drinking water available… If you plan to camp this is probably the best place to go altough we found it quite expensive (9 US $ – car and two persons) If you want more GPS points of Sudan I suggest you try to contact Daniel and Virginie whom I met in Port Sudan. You can reach them at: They are still on their way to Australia on a two years trip! check out: http://move.to/vida – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Do anyone has usefull waypoints of Sudan ? > thanks Derek-Jan > www.africa-expedition.org

Be aware that the waypoint on Isaac’s business card does not point to his campsite…it’s wrong. Mike

I have seen your webpage. I was shocked. I think it is depraved to use aids for your own advantage. Go safe some money or look for a real sponser! Do not pretend, as if African people with aids are waiting for a overland truck full of toerists….. *just my opinion* Mike

With respect for your own opinion i like to explain something : We are not tourists who are driving in a overland truck, not at all. We are enthusiastic people who want to spend some time (almost 3 years in total) for this project. It costs us a year to realize this, 9 months for the trip and another year to close the project. Myself I have a parttime job especially to create time for the organisation. My employer is supporting me in this way (not financial!) 25 % of the profits goes directly to the 10 projects we going to visit on route. The rest of the profits goes to the national organisation Stop Aids Now! who’s a partnership of Aidsfonds, Hivos, Icco, Memisa & Novib. This is all notarial registered. Stop Aids Now! supports us with all the neccesary materials needed to give education on route and at the projects. Radio and television will follow us to show the world (holland/belgium) that Africa is more than only wild animals, to show the people what is going on at this projects and in wich way the local people learn to prevent themselve against Aids. All the personall spendings are paid by ourselve’s. I was in Africa enough to know what the people like to see and i can assure you that we are most wellcome. I don’t know why you give this reaction without asking us what’s behind this expedition but i think was a bit short-sighted. We get around 850 visitiors a day on our site and this is the very first negative reaction i get since we are online (februari2001). Hopefully you have a better opinion now. If not i invite you to discuss with me by email in Dutch. Derek-Jan www.africa-expedition.org

This is not a good argument. You are a beginner, you need a lot of time…..everybody needs time and enthusiasm to prepare a trip! > 25 % of the profits goes directly to the 10 projects we going to visit on > route. If there are any profits.:(…a fixed amount of money could change my opinion…. > Radio and television will follow us to show the world (holland/belgium) that > Africa is more than only wild animals, to show the people what is going on > at this projects and in wich way the local people learn to prevent themselve > against Aids.
I do not believe that a national television station will spend time to broadcast you, instead of a real (powerful) help organisation to raise money to prevent aids. > All the personall spendings are paid by ourselve’s. Could be, but I was one of two who could give you waypoints. I know how locals will react if they see you with your fancy satellite phone and radio crew……they will love you!….YOU!YOU!
) (Sarcasm…..you may understand this later, people like you are the cause of it) > Hopefully you have a better opinion now. If not i invite you to discuss with > me by email in Dutch. > Derek-Jan
This is usenet, everybody uses a different way to start a discussion. So I invite people to join although this thread is a latecomer……. Please enjoy your trip, but do not try to sell it as charity. btw it’s bad publicity to point to a dutch website in an english newsgroup…;)) Mike – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> www.africa-expedition.org
