Author's Query: AIDS Censorship
Question:
Author’s Query: AIDS Censorship I have been asked to write an article on AIDS censorship, focussing on concrete instances where AIDS-dissident ideas were suppressed in one way or another. The theme of censorship runs throughout my writings on AIDS, from 1985 to the present, especially in such articles as "The AIDS War: Lies and Censorship in AIDS Coverage" (New York Native of 12 August 1991, reprinted as Chapter XXVI of _The AIDS War_) and "Looking Back on Berlin" (Fall/Winter 1993 issue of the HEAL Newsletter, New York). I’d be grateful for any information related to the topic: the suppression of non-orthodox or politically incorrect AIDS viewpoints. Broadly considered this would include instances where scheduled TV appearances were canceled at the last moment; where commissioned articles were canceled; where AIDS-dissident speakers were shouted down in public meetings; where news stories were killed; where policies of "censorship through silence" prevailed; where AIDS-dissidents were punished or threatened in one way or another; where slander campaigns were directed at AIDS dissidents; where non-conforming posts were rejected by the moderators of Usenet newsgroups; and where writers or speakers were silenced through truculence, including name-calling and ad hominem attacks. Although I personally do not know of any cases where AIDS- orthodox ideas were suppressed by AIDS dissidents, I would be interested in hearing about such cases. If of general interest, responses could be posted in this forum. Otherwise, they could be sent to me privately via e-mail. John Lauritsen, author: _Poison By Prescription: The AZT Story_ (1990) _The AIDS War_ (1993)

I would suggest that you contact Gary Null, who hosts a radio program that is broadcast from NY and elsewhere. He has frequently commented on this sort of thing on his radio program. Danny

[edit] Who asked you to write this article? Anybody we know? These newsgroups are free public forums where all input is welcomed and examined. No free speech is being stifled. Spread the word to all the so-called dissidents to bring their factual and personal experience here to be examined. However, be advised that to be a dissident you only have to disagree with somebody. It requires no proof or substance, or intelligence. Most, if not all "HIV" dissidents seem to lack a fundamental understanding of basic scientific methods. It is reasonable that they do not perceive the subtleties of the advanced sciences, and so it is not surprising they fail to substantiate their claims. All dissenting scientists, if you can find them, are also welcome here. If you or any one else possess hypotheses for consideration, bring them forth and we’ll help you set up the most cost effective experimental models, criticise your approach and data, and provide referral to the most skilled workers in the appropriate art and science. Scientists don’t mind naming or being named, it’s what they do. Intellectual honesty must begin with oneself, as painful as that can be. If my own work is worthless, I want to be the first one to know. Self criticism is as valuable a tool in the laboratory as it is in the clinical arena, but it is not a substitute for peer review. Those who have thin skins, possess little valid information, and who are willing to risk other peoples lives by spreading misinformed, unsubstantiated claims in a pandemic, should not be surprised if they are not received with open arms. This is not a social club where they can have their egos massaged ad lib, and their needs for attention fulfilled. Charles P. McCarthy Healthcare Consulting and Medical Research Carmichael, CA, USA
