Bitter melon?
Question:
Anyone have experience using bitter melon? My cousin sent me an article about its benefits, most notably for diabetes, HIV, and psoriasis (apparently it has a mild immunosuppresive property). Anyone?

Haven’t tried bitter melon, no. But, I believe it. Most fruits and vegatables (and meats?) contain a variety of bioflavinoids, of which some are known to suppress the production of some of the zillion different compounds the immune system uses (and which may also suppress some others of the zillion, which science has yet to name or understand, but which may be important anyway). Even quercetin in black tea and onions does this (or in quercetin capsules from the nutrition store). I believe that one can see some mild benefits to p by consuming these, as opposed to not consuming them. I’ve tried the quercetin capsules, too, which maybe gave a tiny bit more benefit, but maybe coincidentally, the couple of times I’ve tried this, in the paranoid way I try practically all medicines and treatments, I seemed to catch a cold. Proof, yeah, maybe, but, well, you see the problem? Hope I have confused the issue thoroughly, J.

Using it? as in eating it helping P? Not that I’ve noticed, but then I don’t seem to have any noticeable dietary triggers/alleviators. A bit in the stirfry emphasizes the sweetness of things like shrimp but never has done much for my P and too much of it can leave your mouth metallic tasing puckered for weeks so I don’t think I’d want to get carried away testing it : ).
