long: parents & piercings
Question:
>I looked thru your FAQ and I guess most of you don’t need parental >approval.
Just because we don’t need approval doesn’t mean our parents approve or aren’t upset. My mom cried when she saw my Labret, and that was when I was 22! >Also, would shops give discounts if you buy a few things all in one hit?
Depends on the shop. Many will perform a second piercing in the same sitting for a discount, because they already got the tools out, etc. When getting a permanent change to your body, shop for quality, not the best price. Shop for sterilization – I hear that many Australian tattoo artists and piercers don’t even wear gloves! Sure, you may get that navel ring for less, but you may also be getting a poor quality ring of questionable metal grade, a bacterial infection because the piercer touched his tools and the ring with unwashed and ungloved hands, and you may get Hepatitis or HIV from an unsterilized needle. What will you be paying then? >ie I want to get my ear lobes a pair of 16ga. blue Ni Captive beads and >also (very hopefully) a blue Ni barbell for my navel and to get it
Niobium is abbreviated, "Nb." Titanium is "Ti." >pierced, since it seems the concensus is that barbells seem to ‘last’
The jewelry may lose it’s color quickly in a navel piercing. >What sort of health problems should you tell your piercer about?
Do you have any conditions which would impede healing, or which would be exacerbated by the piercing or healing process. >Don’t flame me but do X-Rays at the Airport go off after a certain >amount of metal in you?!
High quality body jewelry is non-magnetic or has a very, very low level of magnetism, depending on the metal. Airport security are looking for specific metals, too. The steel used for body jewelry is not the same grade as the steel used for keys of guns. — * Ardvark * Anne Greenblatt Piercing FAQ Manager for rec.arts.bodyart Piercing Exquisite http://www2.ba.best.com/~ardvark

Hi all, I looked thru your FAQ and I guess most of you don’t need parental approval. Basically, I’m asking if your parents will ever accept piercings? I want to get my navel done, and by the law (in Australia) I am over the age were I need my parents permission (you have to be over 17 or else you need a note from your parents with a phone number!). But I still want to live at home! so I really can’t just go and get it done without her saying yes. I had my ear cart. done in September (16ga. Ni captive bead) and she freaked at that and wanted me to take it out. I said I wouldn’t, and she cried, and now she shows it off to people(!) I just don’t know how to convince her (I haven’t really been game to tell her that I am getting it done, I just don’t know when) that it is ok and I will still be the same person afterwards as I was before. What do you think? Also, would shops give discounts if you buy a few things all in one hit? ie I want to get my ear lobes a pair of 16ga. blue Ni Captive beads and also (very hopefully) a blue Ni barbell for my navel and to get it pierced, since it seems the concensus is that barbells seem to ‘last’ better in navels (mine is an innie and an outie and it appearently doesn’t have much of a lip around it) What sort of health problems should you tell your piercer about? BTW, just cos some-one mentioned it, my piercing is one the left, as is my infus-a-port, I’m left handed, but I sleep on my right side. Don’t flame me but do X-Rays at the Airport go off after a certain amount of metal in you?! Any advice would be welcome! Katrina
