why did you give him > this bath in the first place? Did you try to wash something off him? > (like paint or soemthing like that)? Did you use some scented shampoo > while bathing him? He could be allergic to something you tried to wash > off but he could also be allergic to the shampoo.

I’m kind of curious why everyone says cats are always self cleaning?  I’ve had need to bathe cats in the past; once from one getting into something (probably another cats scent) making my other cat crazy.  The last was one that came from a shelter that STANK to high Heaven.

Well, bathing cats too much can cause skin problems. Even show people save the baths for shows (those I’ve talked to). Not the combing grooming but bathing yes. Cats are very fastidious (most of them) and really the most I’ve heard advised (except for people with allergies and you can still just wipe them down with wipes) is twice a year, unless they get into something. Only a guess – but maybe its what you used to bath him with? Our local vets advise against bathing a cat as many things that are OK for humans (and even dogs) are not for cats – apart from the fact that they lick themselves constantly and therefore ingest the shampoo/soap etc – it also strips the natural protective oils from their coats.  My ginger tom seems particularly sensitive to household stuff and sneezes like mad if I have the drier on or washing drying on radiators – I’ve only bathed him once (NEVER AGAIN) after a paricularly nasty bout of diarrhoea and once I finally got him into the water he wasn’t TOO bad – but getting him IN there – oh boy!  CAT + WATER = massive human blood loss (the pharmacy made a profit that day) Max

Well, he seems to have slacked off quite a bit with the sneezing episodes. I’m starting to believe that it was the shampoo.  I have a vet appointment on Friday, should I still take him? I think our Vet is expensive. What should the normal range for a office call be? I pay $25. which is not so bad, but for other services I think the’re kind of high.

He might be sensative to the perfume in the shampoo then. Maybe wipe him down really well with a clean dry towel, see if it helps? Karen

Hi All, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what they think may have caused my cat to start sneezing lately? I gave him a bath (which is only his 2nd bath and he’s 1yr 5mths.) Thursday and I made sure he was almost completely dry and then all of a sudden the next day he starts this sneezing episode. He’s been sneezing quite a bit and it’s been 4 days now. I really don’t want to waste money on a visit to the vet. if it’s only a cold (do cat’s get colds??) and  he will get over it but yet don’t want him to keep doing this either. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

Yes, cats do get colds and they can complicate and get really serious if not treated. Is your cat just sneezing, or are his eyes teary as well? Have you heard him cough? If the answer is yes, you should definately take him to the vet. If you wait, you might spend much more money later, if his condition get worse (it could happen). Apart form that, don
